Hobbie De Hoy is (surprise!) not my real name. I like pseudonyms a lot.  I wanted one as obvious and quirky as that of Lemony Snicket, and I hope I have achieved that. My pseudonym was inspired by a very clever limerick that appears in James Thurber’s “The Thirteen Clocks.” The limerick appears in full in my second blog post.

I like to read and I am having a surprising amount of fun writing this blog. It’s much more fun than posting to any social media site could ever be.

Favorite (admired) writers include Jane Austen, Dorothy Parker, James Thurber, George Eliot, Margaret Atwood, and Anna Quindlen. There are many, many more.

I make things up. I don’t always see what is right in front of my nose. I often say the wrong thing to the wrong person. And I love to be mean-spirited and sarcastic when I think nobody can see me do it.

You are seeing a side of me that has no place in my real life. Enjoy.
